Title: MENTAL HEALTH
ARTIST: SILENT RIOT
Year: 1983
Format: VINYL RECORD ALBUM/LP
Classification: HEAVY METAL/HORROR THEMED ALBUM
Status: RECOVERED

SYNOPSIS:
Released during the beginning of the 1980s hair metal scene, Mental Health appeared to be a standard heavy metal album before gaining attention for its disturbing cover art and increasingly erratic tone. Beneath its high-energy tracks and aggressive sound, listeners began to notice recurring themes of violence, identity distortion, and masked figures appearing in their dreams tied to something more ritualistic than performative. The album is believed to have started the initial “Satanic Panic” fear that swept over the United States in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s.

As the album gained underground traction, rumors spread that certain tracks contained reversed audio and layered frequencies that produced unsettling psychological effects when played repeatedly.

ARCHIVE NOTES:
Recovered from a private vinyl collection of Calvin Hurteau, a prominent record collector in the Herkimer County/Mohawk Valley area of New York. The sleeve features a masked figure resembling a slasher icon, though no official licensing or credits are listed.

No verified label or distribution records exist for Silent Riot, and the band does not appear in any known tour or recording archives.

Some collectors claim prolonged listening produces auditory distortions and recurring visual imagery associated with the album’s artwork. Suicide and murder were often the results of extended album play according to court documents and rumors from 1984.
