CRIDDER BROOD KIDS (1985)
RELIC VAULT ENTRY: NH-RV-003
Title: CRIDDER BROOD KIDS
Year: 1985
Format: TOY/RETAIL BOX
Classification: CURSED CHILDREN’S COLLECTIBLE
Status: RECOVERED
ABOUT:
Released during the peak of the 1980s collectible toy boom, the Cridder Brood Kid appeared in several regional toy catalogs before quietly disappearing from store shelves. At first glance it resembled the soft, friendly dolls popular at the time, but the creature inside the box told a different story. With glowing red eyes, needle-like teeth, and a small vial labeled “real blood,” the toy seemed designed less for comfort and more for something unsettling. Reports of the dolls eating the children who owned them are still widely debated. Rumors circulated among collectors that the toy was part of a short-lived experimental line meant to merge children’s toys with horror marketing during the VHS monster boom. Most examples vanished quickly, leaving only a handful of boxed specimens in circulation.
ARCHIVE NOTES:
Recovered from a flea market vendor in June of 2014, in Rochester, New York. The packaging claims the toy includes a vial of “real blood,” though the contents have never been verified. Several collectors insist the toy’s eyes appear to glow differently under low light. No official manufacturer records have been located for the Cridder Brood Kid line and what remains of the line has been known to be found on the Dark Web.
